For our latest episode of The Founder Edit, where inspirational women share their wisdom on family life, we sat down with Lucy, founder of AMP Wellbeing. Lucy runs a successful business running stylish, functional tools for home fitness. Here, she shares her insights into the benefits of yoga for children, alongside her advice on incorporating it into your family routine.
You have a gorgeous brand, specialising in stylish at-home fitness products. Can you tell us a little bit about AMP well-being, and what inspired you to start the brand?
Amp Wellbeing started from a really personal place. I went from having the time to head to the gym in my twenties, to building a busy corporate HR career, and then to becoming a mum — and somewhere along the way, my own health and fitness kept slipping down the priority list. I didn’t have the time or flexibility to get to classes, and the home equipment I could find was either cheaply made or not very inspiring.
I remember thinking: Why does home fitness equipment so often feel cheaply made, overly masculine, or lacking in genuine functionality? Why couldn’t it be high-quality, thoughtfully designed, and actually fit beautifully into everyday life? What if the equipment could actually look good in your home, be easy to store, and make you want to use it? That was the spark for Amp Wellbeing.
Since then, it’s been amazing to see our community grow — people and studios who want stylish, functional fitness tools that make everyday movement feel achievable. The best part of this journey has been hearing from customers who tell us our products have helped them build consistent routines that fit their real lives and how much they love them!
I see you have a collection of stylish yoga mats for kids. Can you tell us a bit about them and what led you to launching this range?
Yes, and this is something I feel so passionate about. We believe wellbeing should start early and support families, not just individuals. When my own children were little, I could see how much they benefitted from having simple ways to move, stretch, and calm down, particularly at bedtime. But there weren’t many options for safe, thoughtfully designed yoga products for kids. They always wanted to use mine.
So, we decided to create our own. Our children’s yoga mats are just the right size for little bodies, made with safe and eco-conscious materials, and designed in colours and styles that kids actually get excited about. The idea is to give children the same sense of pride and motivation over their yoga practice that adults feel — and to make it easy for families to practise together.
That's so lovely, and I know my kids will want one! My kids love doing yoga and it seems to get them in a really good mood - Can you explain what the benefits are of introducing children to yoga?
The benefits of yoga for kids are incredible, and they go far beyond flexibility. Yoga helps children build strength, balance, and coordination in a playful and approachable way. But just as importantly, it supports emotional wellbeing — it gives children space to slow down, breathe deeply, and learn how to connect with their bodies.
Parents often notice their children becoming calmer, more focused, and more confident after practising. For toddlers, even the simplest poses or breathing games can be powerful. The benefits of yoga for toddlers include early motor development, body awareness, and learning simple tools to self-soothe during stressful moments.
I think of it as a lifelong toolkit — movement, mindfulness, and calm — that children can carry with them as they grow.
Routines can be really tricky for parents. Do you have any advice as to how or when to add yoga into a child’s routine? How regularly do you recommend practicing yoga with kids?
Absolutely — and I know from personal experience that family routines can be challenging! My biggest advice is to keep it short, simple, and playful. Yoga doesn’t need to be an hour-long session — just a few minutes can make a huge difference.
Some easy ways to fit yoga for children into daily life:
- A few stretches in the morning to start the day calmly.
- A quick “reset” after school to release energy.
- Or, one of our favourites, a calming bedtime yoga ritual to help children wind down (we use AsanaNana or Cosmic Yoga!).
I usually suggest a few times a week, but consistency matters more than frequency. Even once a week can be enough to create a love of movement.
